Training & Behaviour
Dog Training and Behavioural Modification at Paws Academy
Behavioural challenges can often feel overwhelming, but they don’t have to be permanent. Our specialised behavioural modification services target these issues at their root, helping your dog develop confidence, resilience, and trust. Through personalised training plans and one-on-one support, we help transform problem behaviours into positive ones.
A 90-minute session includes a comprehensive discussion to fully understand and explore the behaviours and any contributing factors, hands-on work with you and your dog, and tailored exercises to help manage the behaviours at home. After the session, we dedicate 2-3 hours to writing up detailed notes, compiling a bespoke training report, and gathering relevant online resources to support what has been discussed. This report includes customised training exercises and any additional materials to aid your progress. We aim to send this within 1-2 days after your session to ensure you have clear guidance moving forward. Depending on the situation, we may also provide further access to online resources to support you and your dog.
We offer behavioural consultations at Ballycroy, Westport, or in your home. For Westport and home visits, please contact us directly to book, noting that home visits typically have a couple of months' lead time due to high demand. Follow-up sessions are typically 60 minutes. After each follow-up session, we will update and resend the behavioural report to reflect the progress and any new strategies.

Understanding the Behaviour Modification Process
Behavioural change in dogs is a journey that requires time, patience, and consistent training. Our initial behavioural consultation is the first step in understanding the root causes of your dog’s behaviour and creating a structured plan to support positive change in your home environment.
What to Expect in the Initial Session
• The session lasts approximately 90-120 minutes and includes a detailed assessment of your dog’s behaviour.
• We will identify triggers, discuss contributing factors, and develop a personalised training plan.
• A comprehensive follow-up report will be provided, outlining key recommendations and next steps (this typically takes us 2-3 hours to complete).
Ongoing Behaviour Modification
• While the initial session lays the foundation, behaviour change takes time and cannot be resolved in a single visit.
• Follow-on training sessions (60 minutes each) allow us to monitor progress, make adjustments, and refine the training approach as needed.
• Every dog progresses at their own pace, and we cannot predict exactly how many sessions will be required. However, we are committed to working with both you and your dog to achieve long-term success.
A Commitment to Positive Change
Behaviour modification is not an instant fix—it requires consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement techniquesto achieve lasting results. By following the strategies we provide and remaining committed to the process, you will set your dog up for long-term success.

Services Provided at Our Base Location
At Paws Academy, we offer tailored one-on-one training sessions to address the specific needs of both dogs and their owners. Whether at our fully equipped training centre, at Drummindoo Stud or in the comfort of your home, we focus on resolving problem behaviours in the environment where they occur.
For behaviours centred around the home, our in-home sessions are ideal for addressing challenges like separation anxiety, destructive behaviours, or territorial issues. Working directly with Renee, our expert behavioural specialist, you’ll gain unique insights into your dog’s perspective—understanding the motivations and triggers behind their actions.
Renee’s guidance helps you not only correct unwanted behaviours but also establish positive, lasting habits that prevent future issues. These sessions promote a deeper connection with your dog, creating a calmer and more balanced relationship. Together, we’ll build a stress-free, harmonious lifestyle for both you and your dog.
Start with a 90-minute session designed to thoroughly assess your dog’s needs, address behavioural challenges, or establish general training foundations such as obedience, leash manners, or recall. This comprehensive session provides ample time for hands-on training, customised strategies, and practical guidance tailored to your dog’s unique personality and environment.
For ongoing support, our 60-minute follow-on sessions build on this progress, reinforcing learned behaviours, fine-tuning techniques, and addressing new challenges as they arise. Together, these sessions provide the tools and expertise to create a calmer, happier, and more harmonious life for both you and your dog.
